Amandla Stenberg was born on 23rd October 1998 in the city called Los Angeles of California, in the United States. She is the daughter of Karen Brailsford and Tom Stenberg. Her mother was of African ancestry and is a spiritual writer and counselor, while her father was Danish. She also has two other half-sisters.
Stenberg was already in the entertainment industry when she was four years old. She used to model for Disney and also made her appearance in various commercials during her childhood. Amandla Stenberg made her film debut in 2011, appearing in a French action thriller film Colombiana. The film was directed by Olivier Megaton, where she portrayed the character of young Cataleya. The following year, she dropped the central role in the science fiction adventure film The Hunger Games. In the movie, she portrayed Rue’s character, and her performance was highly praised and loved by the audience.
She won her first Teen Choice Awards for Choice Chemistry for her performance, which she shared with the star Jennifer Lawrence in 2012. She also received Black Reel Awards nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance and NAACP Image Awards nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture in 2013.
