Ryan was born on 3rd May of 1968 in New York of United States. Her full name is Amy Beth Dziewiontkowski, and a truck business owner, John Dziewiontkowski, and a nurse, Pamela Dziewiontkowski, took her. She grew up with her sister Laura Dziewiontkowski delivering a Daily news newspaper.

Ryan finished her schooling at Stagedoor Manor in New York. She later attended High School of Performing Arts and graduated from it at the age of 17. She started her acting career soon after.
