Annie Potts is the third child of Powell Potts and Dorothy Harris. She belongs to the baby boomer generation and was born on October 28, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee. She grew up with her two sisters in Kentucky. After graduating from high school, she received a bachelor’s degree in theater arts. Potts had to deal with several fractured bones in her legs after a car accident when she was twenty-one years old.
Career
Everyone has to start somewhere, to reach their destination. Potts started her career as an actress with the film Corvette Summer. It was in 1978 and the following year she was nominated for the Golden Globes Award.
Annie Potts came into prominence after her role in the movie Ghostbusters. The movie is a classic hit and is still watched by people to this date. Her acting on it was flawless and her skills were even more highlighted after her role in the sitcom Designing Women. Much of her popularity stemmed from her role in Designing Women. The show lasted from 1986 to 1993. She also appeared in many films and TV series including Magnum, Close to Home, Two and a Half Men, and Ugly Betty. Her performance in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was outstanding.

In 1989, she split with her husband of 8 years Scott Senechal. Potts got married to James Hayman in 1990. She has three children. Potts is one of the board members of Stephens College and is one of the major fund providers for them.
