Cary Elwes was born on 26th October of 1962 in the Westminster of London in England. His full name is Ivan Simon Cary Elwes and is Tessa Kennedy, a socialite and interior designer, and Dominic Elwes, a portrait painter. His mother later married a film producer named Elliott Kastner. He has 2 older brothers who are successful in their career as him. His brother Damian Elwes is a famous British artist, and another brother Cassian Elwes is a film producer. He came from an elite family background where his grandparents were industrialists, diplomats, and painters.

He gained public attention the same year from the American fantasy adventure film The Princess Bride, where he starred as Westley.
He then continued starring in different other films, namely Days of Thunder, in 1990 as Russ Wheeler alongside co-stars Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, and others. Following years, he starred in the American Navy comedy film Hot Shots! As Lt. Kent Gregory.
