Early Life

Dave was born as David John Franco to Betsy and Douglas Franco on 12th June 1985 in Palo Alto. His mother is a poet/author/editor while his father ran a business in Silicon Valley. His father died in 2011. He was raised as a Jew and is proud of his Jewish heritage. He is the youngest son of the family and has two older brothers.

He is a University of Southern California, graduate. During his University years, he used to teach creative writing at high schools. He was introduced to acting by his brother’s manager and started improving his skills at a theater class.

Dave Franco made his television debut from the 2006 family drama “7th Heaven” as Benjamin Hainsworth. He was featured in the episode “Highway to Cell”. He was then part of the 2008 sitcom “Do Not Disturb” as Gus. He was part of the series for five episodes. He was also a part of “Greek” as Gonzo for six episodes of the show and played Zachary for five episodes in “Privileged”, the same year.

In 2009, he became the series regular for the medical comedy “Scrubs”. He played Cole Aaronson for thirteen episodes of the show. He also did a voice role for Edward Nigma/Riddler in the 2011 superhero aminated series “Young Justice”. He voiced the character for two episodes.

He had a cameo appearance in the 2014 sitcom “Community,” but his appearance was not credited. He then played Chad Simpson for two episodes of “Other Space” in 2015. He voiced Alexi Brosepheno in the 2016 animated adult web T.V. series “BoJack Horseman” in the episode “Love And/Or Marriage”.

He played Jeff in “Easy” and Dave in “Little Big Awesome”. He will also be featured in the upcoming series “The Now” in the role of Ed Poole.

Dave Franco made his film industry debut from the 2006 film “Frat Bros” as A.J. His appearance in the film was only for a short screen-time. He also made a short appearance in “Superbad” as Greg.  He was also part of the 2009 short comedy film “A Fuchsia Elephant” by Michael. He was also the Executive Producer for the film.

In 2010, he made small appearances in “Greenberg” as Rich and “Charlie St. Cloud” as Sully. He made an appearance as Dave in the 2012 short film “Would You” and was also the writer for the movie. In 2013, he made an appearance in “Warm Bodies” as Perry Kelvin before playing Jack Wilder in the heist thriller “Now You See Me“. The film received a mixed response from the critics but was a hit at the box-office. It grossed over $350 million against a budget of just $75 million.

After “Now You See Me”, he was featured in the voice role of Wally for “The Lego Movie” in 2014. The same year he was Pete Regazolli in “Neighbours”. He also made a cameo appearance in “22 Jump Street” as Eric Molson, but his appearance was uncredited in the film.

In 2016, Dave Franco reprised his role as Jack Wilder in the sequel of “Now You See Me”, “Now You See Me 2”. This film was also a commercial success grossing over $330 million even though it received a mixed response from the critics. He has also voiced Lloyd Garmadon for “The Lego Ninjago Movie” in 2017. His other films include; “Balloons”, “Zeroville”, “Underground”, and a few others. He has also produced, written, and directed the 2020 horror film “The Rental”. The film was average in the eyes of critics and managed to gross only over $2 million.

He is also the voice of Tony Stark/Iron Man in the 2016 videogame “Marvel Avengers Academy”. He also directed an advertisement for the RIMOWA company in 2020.
