About Isla Fisher
Isla Lang Fisher or Isla Fisher is an Australian actress and author who is well known for her roles in movies such as Scooby-Doo(2002), Wedding Crashers (2005), Hot Rod (2007), The Great Gatsby (2013) and Now You See Me (2013) name a few. She was born in Muscat, Oman on February 3, 1976. Fisher came into notability for her role as Shannon Reed on Home and Away which lasted from 1994 to 1997.
Early Life
Isla Fisher was born to British parents of Scottish origin namely Elspeth Reid and Brian Fisher. Fisher’s father worked as a banker for the U.N. in Oman. When she was 6 years old, Fisher and her family moved back to their hometown Bathgate in Scotland, they then moved to Perth which lies in Western Australia. Fisher has four siblings and she has said that her upbringing was great and outdoorsy.
Fisher has also said that she has an Australian sensibility and a laid-back attitude to life which makes her feel very Australian. Fisher is an active supporter of feminism and also considers herself a feminist. Fisher attended Swanbourne Primary School and Methodist Ladies’ College where she worked on the lead roles in school productions like Little Shop of Horrors. She studied clown, mime and commedia dell’arte in L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq, Paris.
Career
At the age of 9, Isla Fisher made her first appearance in commercials on Australian Television. She dipped her toes into professional acting with two guest roles in Children’s shows namely Bay City and Paradise Beach. Fisher was equally interested in writing and published two teen novels, Bewitched and Seduced by Fame. In an interview with Sunday Mirror, Fisher said that she would have been a full-time writer if she didn’t succeed as an actress.
Her first appearance in Hollywood was in 2002 as the role of the love interest of Shaggy in Scooby – Doo’s the live-action film. The Breakthrough in Fisher’s career came along with the film Wedding Crashers. There she played the role of the sexually aggressive daughter of a politician who calls in love with an incautious wedding crasher. After appearing as a party host in the independent drama London, she starred in the romantic comedy Wedding Daze (2006).
Fisher voiced the character of Beans in the 3D animated Rango (2011).
Fisher starred in Bachelorette (2012) garnering much attention and praise from fans and critics alike. Bachelorette was a commercial success and grossed US$ 11.9 million.
Fisher’s roles in 2013’s The Great Gatsby and Now You See Me are the reason for her mainstream recognition. The same year Fisher bagged in the role of an actress in the fourth season of Arrested Development. Fisher has written several children’s novels namely Marge in Charge, Marge and the Pirate Baby, Marge and the Great Train Rescue and Marge in Charge and the Stolen Treasure.
Awards
Isla Fisher has received many prestigious awards throughout her ongoing career in acting. In 2006, she won the MTV Movie Awards under the category Best Breakthrough Performance for the movie Wedding Crashers. She won the Alliance of Women Film Journalists for Best Animated Female for her role in the film Rango. In 2016, she won an AACTA Awards under the Trailblazer Award Category.
Personal Life
Isla Fisher met British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen at a party in Sydney in 2002. Fisher and Sacha got engaged in 2004 in a Jewish Ceremony and have been married since 15 March 2010. The couple has three children and the family now lives in London and Los Angeles. Fisher converted to Judaism in 2007 after three years of study and took the Hebrew name, Ayala.
Charity Work
Fisher and her husband donated US$ 500,000 to Save the Children for vaccination of children against Measles in Syria and the equal amount to the International Rescue Committee aimed at helping Syrian Refugees. Fisher also donated her signed shoes to the Small Steps Project Celebrity Shoe Auction.
