Early Life


Lewis Hamilton’s full name is Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton. He was born to parents Carmen and Anthony Hamilton on January 7, 1985, in Stevenage. after his parents split up, he lived with his mother until 12. Later, he moved in with his father. Hamilton’s father bought him a go-kart when he was six. His father was highly supportive of his racing career. He studied in The John Henry Newman School and used to play football and cricket for his school’s team. In 2001, he joined Cambridge Arts and Science.

In 1993, Lewis Hamilton started his career and began go-karting when he was just eight years old. In 1995, he went to Ronn Denis, who was the McLaren Formula One team’s boss at that time, for an autograph. Lewis stated that he had won the British Championship. Dennis signed it and wrote, “Phone me in nine years; we’ll sort something out then.” After Lewis won the British Championship for the second time, Dennis called Hamilton and signed him up to a McLaren driver development program. He made his Formula 3 Euro series with McLaren. Lewis was in the fifth position at the end of the year. The same year, he won the Bahrain D3 Superprix. Hamilton won 15 out of 20 rounds in 2005 ASM. 

In his first Formula One season, he got partnered with Fernando Alonso. He finished second in the 2007 World Drivers’ Championship. Hamilton had a great first season and signed a contract to stay with McLaren till 2012. In 2008, he was the youngest driver to win the Formula One World Championship. From 2009 to 2012, his campaigns with McLaren were unsuccessful. In 2013, he signed with Mercedes and raced in the 2013 season.

In Mercedes, he and Nico Roseberg reunited. Nico was his teammate in go-karting. In 2013, he won the Hungarian Grand Prix. 2014 made changes in regulations as turbo-hybrid engines got mandated. These changes were a massive advantage for Hamilton as his car was best in the grid. In 2014, Mercedes won 16 out of 19 races. Eleven of which were won by Hamilton. He picked his old go-kart number “44” as his car number after new driver number regulations in 2014. He extended his contract with Mercedes for three more years in 2015, and the deal was reportedly worth £ 100 million. He was allowed to keep his winning car and trophies.

Rosberg was one of his biggest rivals at that time. Roseburg, however, retired after winning the championship in 2016. After this, Sebastian Better, who raced for Ferrari, became his biggest rival. In 2017, 2018, and 2019, he won three titles back to back. During the 2018 season, Mercedes extended his contract for two more years, and he got paid £ 40 million per year. Hamilton is leading the stands by 55 points more than Bottas in the ninth round of the 2020 season.

Lewis Hamilton is vegan. He also doesn’t drink alcohol. Hamilton and Nicole Scherzinger dated from November 2007 to January 2010. They were on and off from 2011 to 2015. He evaded millions worth of taxes while buying a private jet for which he got criticized.
