Massoud was born on 17th September 1991 in the capital city of Egypt, Cairo. He holds the citizenship of both Egypt and Canada as his whole family moved to Canada when he was just 3 years old to live a better life. He was born to Coptic Orthodox parents and in an Orthodox Christian family. The name of his parents are unknown and yet to be revealed.
In Canada, Massoud joined the St. Brother Andre Catholic High School and grew up in Markham of Ontario. He said that he grew up watching Egyptian comedy films so he himself loves to portray the comedy roles in the film.

In 2017, he appeared in the Canadian thriller film, Ordinary Days as Ollie Santos, and the same year, he made an appearance in another film, Final Exam as Zaid. In 2018, he appeared in the film, Masters in Crime as Majid.
In 2019, Mena Massoud landed his breakthrough film Aladdin playing the lead character alongside his favorite star Will Smith and other co-stars Naomi Scott.
