Naomi Grace Scott is an English actor and singer who is best known for her role as Princess Jasmine in Disney’s fantasy film Aladdin. Early life
Naomi Scott was born on May 6, 1993, in Hounslow, London. She is of mixed Indian-English descent. She was born to Usha Joshi who is of Indian Gujarati descent while her father Christopher Scott is English. She is the second child of the couple. She, along with her family, moved to Woodford, North East London where she attended Davenant Foundation School in Essex. Her parents were pastors at the local Bridge church. She grew up listening to Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, and Kim Burrell. She also sang at the local church. She has an older brother, Joshua. To pursue her role in the series Terra Nova, she left her school halfway.

Naomi Scott’s acting career started with Disney UK’s series Life Bites. She then took the role of Mo in 2011 Disney’s Lemonade Mouth which was her first role in an American Production House. In the same year, she appeared in the Sci-Fi series Terra Nova as Maddy Shannon which premiered on Fox in September of the same year. She also appeared in the music video of the song Hurricane, sung by her co-star Bridgit Mendler in Lemonade Mouth in 2013. She was cast in Ridley Scott’s The Martian as Ryoko, but her scenes were removed in the final editing.
She took up the role of the pink ranger, Kimberly Hart in 2017 movie Power Ranger which is the adaption of Television series under the same name for which she earned a Teen Choice Award nomination. The movie was a commercial disappointment grossing just $142 million worldwide against the budget of $105 million. It received a mixed review from critics. Her most famous role came in 2019 when she starred as Princess Jasmine in Aladdin; live-action of 1992 animated movie Aladdin. Critic Mick LaSalle praised her as the ”real star” of the film.
For her performance in Aladdin, she won the Teen Choice Award. The movie was a commercial success grossing over $1 billion worldwide. She also starred as one of the leads in 2019’s Charlie’s Angels, the third sequel of Charlie’s Angels franchise. The movie was released in November and received a mixed review from critics. She has also worked in over 6 MVs.
She made her directional debut from the 2019 Music Video titled Forget You of artist Nick Brewer.
Singing
British Pop singer from girl band Eternal discovered Scott and signed her. She then worked with Xenomania. In 2014, she was featured in a part of Reload Sessions of the YouTube channel Reload. She released her first independent debut EP titled Invisible Division in August of 2014. She released her second EP on 2016 titled Promises. She has recorded six singles as the leading artist and many others as a featured artist.
