Early life

Schiff was born on 27th May of 1955 in Bethesda of Maryland in the United States. He belongs to American nationality. He was taken to a wealthy and Jewish family where his father is a real estate lawyer, and his mother is an executive of a television and publishing company. He has a brother who is also successful in his career, his name is Paul Schiff, and his parent’s name is Edward and Charlotte Schiff.

Schiff is a high school drop out student. He learned acting from the City College of New York.

Richard Schiff began his career as a director. He started directing different plays in the theatres. His known work in Antigone is a tragedy play that he directed in 1983. But he soon changed his career to acting and made his film debut.

Richard Schiff made his film debut in 1992. He dropped the role in 3 films, namely Malcolm X as JFK reporter, The Bodyguard as Skip Thomas, Hoffa as a government attorney.

In 2004, he appeared in the comedy film The Hudsucker Proxy as a mailroom screamer, in a thriller film Speed as a train driver, and Major League II as commercial director. Schiff dropped the leading role only in 2010 in a British comedy film called The Infidel, where he portrayed the character of Lenny Goldberg. The same year, he also played the central role in the movie Made in Dagenham as Robert Rooley.

In 2012, Richard Schiff dropped another significant role in the political thriller film Knife Fight as Dimitris Vargas alongside co-stars Rob Lowe, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jamie Chung others. In 2013, he portrayed the character of Emil Hamilton in the superhero film Man of Steel following year; he portrayed the character of Richard Zuckerman in the biographical crime film Kill the Messenger.

Since then, he has starred in other films like Taking Me to the River, American Fable, Geostorm, Clemency, and After Class.

He started making his small appearances in other television series like Tales from the Crypt as Lester Middleton in 1990, Picket Fences as Joey Fero, and L.A. Law as dog pound operator in 1992, South of Sunset as Bobby Bruck and Doogie Howser, M.N as Billy Tishler in 1993. In the following year, he appeared in an episode of The John Larroquette Show as Wilson, Murphy Brown as Mel Woodworth, Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas as deputy Dano, Thunder Alley as Pat Perkins, and in Love & War as Lester Michaels.

Schiff dropped the leading role in the American drama television series called Relativity. The series was premiered in 1996, where he portrayed the character of Barry Roth. He made his appearance in a total of 17 episodes.
