William Hurt, whose real name is William McChord Hurt, was born on 20 March 1950 in Washington, D.C., the U.S., as a son of his father, Alfred McChord Hurt, and mother, Claire Isabel McChord. His father used to work for the State Department where his mother used to work at Time Inc. He has two brothers as siblings.

Before William Hurt married an American actress Mary Beth Hurt in 1971 but they divorced in 1982. in 1981, Hurt started dating Sandra Jennings even if he was married at that time and later, Jennings was pregnant in 1982 which became the main reason for divorce with Mary Beth Hurt. After that, Hurt and Jennings started to live together but the couple separated without being married. Later, he also dated Marlee Matlin. Before, when William Hurt was a child, he lived with his father after his parents had divorced and his mother married Henry Luce III. For his education, he went to attend Middlesex School and became the vice president of the Dramatics Club and also had played in several school plays into the lead role. In the year 1968, he completed his graduation and went to attend Tufts University where he had studied theology but later, he decided to take acting classes so that he joined the Julliard School where Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve were his batchmates.

After that, he was cast as Jake on an American action crime drama television series “Kojak” in the same year. In 1978, he was seen appearing on an American television movie “Verna: USO Girl” as Walter. Later, he was seen in a British-American documentary movie “Lee Marvin: A Personal Portrait by John Boorman” and then, he was seen playing the role of Duke Leto I Atreides on a science fiction television miniseries “Frank Herbert’s Dune” in 2000.

Further, he was cast as Turner Knight in a dramatic movie “The Flamingo Rising” in the year 2001, and in the same year, he was also seen appearing as Varian Fry on a television movie “Varian’s War” for which he was nominated for Satellite Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film.
